Evaluation

My progression unit is finished and I am happy with the work that has been completed and what I have learned.

The Search for the future:

Coming into this project I had a vague idea of what I wanted to do in the future. I already had a love for Tarantino and Roger Deakins. However, after doing a deep dive into their work and how they work, I ended up seeing the world through their eyes and I was in awe. The craft and knowledge they have is astronomical and gave me the extra push towards film production.

Starting in the digital arts by myself when I was younger, I had the passion for creating, but never knew what path I wanted to take within it. Therefore, the inspirations started to push me in a direction. From my research into further education and jobs I was able to make an informed decision on wanting to go to university instead of a job. At university I believe I will make better contacts and learn the industry fundamentals in order to give me a solid ground foundation into how to create and enter the industry.

Business Cards, logo and website:

The business cards, logo and website projects have assisted me into seeing what standard professional practise is within the industry and how businesses are ran. I am happy with my final products and  they match with how I would want to present my brand to a regular person or client. However, as already stated, I believe all three will change in time with how my brand identity grows and changes.

Before these projects I had no idea how to communicate or represent myself with clients. Now I feel confident in representing myself and having the appropriate tools at my disposal in order to communicate with my clients.

Mock interview:

Already having an unstructured interview twice, for my part time jobs, I thought I had a strong understanding how interviews work. Now however I can see how wrong I was. Now I know the difference hiring processes and how much detail can go into hiring somebody.

I know what questions I can be expected in an interview and help prepare myself for future applications. Having researched and created CV's I have a good example to lead off and can easily change or make a new CV when it comes to next applying to new jobs.

The Mock interview itself allowed me to feel the pressure of an interview, without the stress of a real job falling through. From this I was able to see how I reacted and how I can improve within the future. If i feel stressed or confused, it is best to take a second and let yourself catch up. In my interview, I found myself trying to rush and get it over as soon as possible. The second time around however, I know to take my time and let myself breathe.

Showreel:

Creating a showreel allowed me to see what others are creating within the industry and what I am up against. It also assisted me with my understanding of music pace and rhythm. My showreel was the one thing out of the whole project that I felt like I already had good knowledge over, due to my strength in video editing.

Networking:

Over the last 2 years, I have been networking with different individuals within the industry. From single individuals, to hollywood producers I have gained knowledge and inspiration from all different types of characters.

Overall, my networking has inspired me to take inspiration from other people, yet to try and find my own style of work. Having my own unique, rememberable flare will engage an audience more and increase my chances of success.  They have also inspired me to take chances in my work and to let mistakes happen, as that will be the only way I will truly learn and evolve as a creator.

Overall:

Taking a step back to before this project, compared to now, I have strong foundations:

I have a clear understanding of my future.

I have my own brand and identity.

I have the confidence to make mistakes.

I have the confidence to approach others.

I have the right tools for communication.

I have the knowledge for hiring.

I have the confidence in interviews and how to prepare for them.

I have been accepted to all of my University options (yay) and am still choosing Sunderland.

I have the knowledge of others.

I have my own showreel.

I have a website.

I have a business card.

I have a logo.

The list above really puts into perspective how much I have learned and gained in this one project alone. I cannot wait to evolve further within University and I am dreaming already of being on real film sets and having my visuals on the big screens.
